State of Wonder by Ann Patchett.. As a kid, I was a sucker for those Saturday afternoon movies with the scientist (and the lovely girl), snakes, bugs and quicksand. Here Patchett makes it literary, but the thrill is grand. Dead-colleague’s-bones marvelous!

Joel Gardner, LitSnap Editor

"Thrilling, disturbing and moving in equal measures—even better than Patchett’s breakthrough Bel Canto (2001)."

Kirkus Reviews

"The state of wonder in Ms. Patchett’s title kicks in as soon as the plane touches down.."

The New York Times
