Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James.. You are going to love what James does when she uncorks her inner Austen. The thrill of the familiar, plus MURDER! A holiday winner.

Joel Gardner, LitSnap Editor

"...[I]t’s surprisingly gratifying, while turning the pages of P. D. James’s homage, to find oneself laughing not at the characters but with them. Baroness James, 91, a retired British civil servant, former magistrate, BBC governor and author of 20 previous books (many featuring the poet detective Adam Dalgliesh) is far too wise to overstep her authorial license. Her innovation has been to transplant the dramatis personae from Austen into her own suspenseful universe, preserving their likenesses and life force."

The New York Times

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a restless reader in possession of a quiet evening must be in want of a mystery. Should that reader, moreover, happen to be a devotee of “Pride and Prejudice” or an admirer of the detective stories of Baroness James of Holland Park, more commonly known as P.D. James, or ideally of both, one may safely surmise that “Death Comes to Pemberley” will be the must-have present of the holiday season."

The Washington Post
